About Soc Publications
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Several days after my head cleared of all anesthesias, I was imagining how the operating room was set up to do my bypass surgery and who might be there. Some doodles turned into drawings which appealed to me and, having no other engagements, my “excellent”surgical adventure and 7-day stay at NYU Med. Center morphed into SOCOMICS #1.Over many Cape Cod summers, I had been sending “mock” news reports of our wild (!!!) summer doings to my college buddy Lee–he had majored? minored? in journalism and was on the staff of the Syracuse daily newspaper of the University, and to our summer community of friends. These were patterned on the front page of the NY Times and all on ONE sheet. Called the Wellfleet Spurt, and wholly done by hand– no computers, word processors (what are they?), or gasp! typewriters. So with this background, it was natural to apply a proven record of “publishing” to the new material. Thus, the SOCPUBLICATIONS “empire” was born.
Here’s hoping you are moved to a laff or two.
